Bending reliefs are often found in sheet metal bending applications because they prevent general failure from tearing or high stress points (usually corners) during bending. Bending emboss simply cuts two notches in the sheet metal in order to separate the bending that eventually occurs. The sheet metal needs to be bent only when the material appears on both sides of the bend.
